Revenue per FTE Declining

Margin / base / 3 to 6 months

What it detects

Revenue generated per employee is declining as headcount grows faster than revenue.

Why it matters

When headcount grows faster than revenue, each employee is generating less than the one before, which means the business is adding cost faster than it is adding output. That gap is often invisible day to day because the team feels busy and the top line may still be rising, yet the economics of the company are quietly getting worse. Left unchecked, a workforce that produces steadily less per person erodes margin and can outgrow the revenue that is supposed to support it.

How it connects

Declining revenue per FTE means headcount growth is outpacing revenue growth — scaling the team accelerates the cash problem without proportionate output.
